Parents’ Feedback
We know that our students love life at TGSE, but it’s always gratifying to hear from TGSE parents. Here are some examples of recent comments from some parents of High School Junior Academy students:

“We made one of the biggest decisions regarding education and the future of our daughter this year. We always wanted our daughter to go to a traditional girls’ school and we were living the dream; Kelsey was at a local traditional girls’ school and doing really well.

Kelsey was in her early teens when she decided that golf was her passion and she wanted to pursue it for her future. Unfortunately we were hell-bent on her finishing her education at a traditional school and that she could follow her dream of being a golfer after school. During this time, Kelsey was only able to play golf on weekends and holidays, as golf was not recognised as an official sport at her school. We also had an additional problem in the fact that Kelsey is dyslexic, and we had concerns about moving schools in grade 11.

One sunny morning driving to school, Megan, Kelsey’s mom, asked Kelsey how she was feeling that day and what would make her happy. She said that she wished that she could play golf every day; that would make her happy! I had been putting pressure on Megan to look at TGSE and Megan absolutely refused, but at that moment she realised that she was doing our daughter an injustice by not at least investigating this option.

After speaking to many people, we decided to go and meet the people at TGSE and enrol Kelsey. All of our concerns were addressed and our biggest surprise has been the level of professionalism with which the educational side of the school is handled. At no time have Kelsey’s studies been compromised. The British distance learning has been excellent in accommodating all our concerns and Mark at TGSE manages the tutor group as any traditional school would.

We are extremely happy with the education side as well as the golfing side. Kelsey started at TGSE in March 2015 with a handicap of 7 and now, in October 2015, her handicap has come down to a 3! She is playing the best golf of her life and she gets the full support of professionals for golf, fitness and mental coaching. Kelsey is happy and, in turn, we are happy. She is balancing school and golf very comfortably. She is now representing Central Gauteng and has a ranking in South Africa for women’s golf.

We are extremely happy at TGSE. They have helped us realise our daughter’s dream of playing golf every day and the bonus is that we are getting a good education at the same time.” ~ Tom Nicholas

“Tyler joined TGSE in July this year and has had the chance to experience the awesome facilities, staff and overall enthusiasm from all the students.

His passion for golf has increased tremendously and he sees the improvements in his game daily. The coaching staff are committed and go out of their way to assist and help him to focus in areas requiring improvement.

The individual coaching sessions are excellent. They have given Tyler a lot more confidence and have not only improved his physical training but his mental development as well. He has shown commitment and dedication in this short period of time and I am sure he will succeed in reaching his goals thanks to the TGSE team.” ~ Natasha Johnson

“I would like to give my experience of TGSE as a parent of one of your students, Janus Greyling. TGSE is the place where every staff member and student forms a highly organized unit that reflects the highest professional and social values embedded in the game of golf, with the added bonus that academic work does not take second place.

Janus has become quite self-sufficient in planning, organizing and implementing his golf, academic and social life since being a student at TGSE. I have to compliment the school as the catalyst that has made Janus become a fast-maturing young man of which I am proud.” ~ Johannes Greyling

TGSE Team Challenge

One of the most enjoyable weeks of the year is the TGSE Team Challenge, where our various student groups team up to play Ryder Cup style matches against each other in a round robin format, all for bragging rights for the best team at TGSE. We had 4 teams of 8 players competing this year. All 3 years of PGA Diploma students (PGA 1, PGA 2 & PGA 3) made up 3 teams, with our Full-Time Academy students joining forces with the High School Junior Academy students. the 4th team.

36 holes of matchplay were played over 3 days at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington GC and Huddle Park, with foursomes in the mornings and singles in the afternoon. At the end of the 3 days the victors for the first time ever were our PGA Diploma 1st Year team. All bodes well for future performances with the rookies winning.

Tournament Results
One of the key elements of TGSE’s full-time programmes is the tournament experience that we provide in the form of weekly strokeplay medals and regular 36-hole and 72-hole championships on great golf courses. This creates the environment for valuable learning to take place under tournament conditions.

Congratulations to the following recent winners.
